The Pinnacle 42L is built for longer multi-day treks and expeditions, with sleeping pad straps, trekking pole attachment, a floating top lid for variable loads, and a 42-litre capacity. For technical climbing, the Orbital 30L uses Dyneema® composite fabric construction with a dedicated ice axe attachment, helmet carry system, and rope strap, designed to minimise weight on the approach. For everyday carry and commuting, the Phantom 25L includes a padded laptop sleeve, RFID pocket, and airmesh back system. For travel and weekend trips, the Phantom 40L has stowable straps and lockable compartments. For gym use, the Citadel 45L duffel offers water-resistant construction and lockable compartments. The Citadel 80L and 100L suit full expeditions, and the Spectral 5L waist pack handles urban essentials.

ThruDark bags use materials selected for high-stress outdoor use. The Orbital 30L climbing backpack is constructed from a nylon Dyneema® composite fabric, an ultra-high-strength fibre with exceptional tear resistance relative to its weight, used across the main body panels. The Pinnacle 28L and Pinnacle 42L use 210D Robic® polyamide as the primary fabric, a 100% recycled high-tenacity nylon with superior tear and abrasion resistance, reinforced at high-wear contact points with 840D ballistic nylon. The Phantom commuter packs and Citadel duffels use Cordura polyester hex fabric, 840D ballistic nylon, and 1000D Cordura polyamide panels. All packs feature YKK® zippers throughout and reinforced stitching at load-bearing points. Every bag is designed and tested for hard use in demanding environments.

ThruDark bags use weather-resistant fabrics and details but should not be considered fully waterproof unless otherwise specified. The Orbital 30L climbing backpack uses nylon Dyneema® composite fabric, which offers strong inherent water resistance. The Pinnacle 28L and Pinnacle 42L both include an integrated detachable rain cover rated to 10,000HH+, which deploys over the full pack to provide a reliable waterproof barrier in sustained wet conditions. The main body fabrics on both packs carry a C0 DWR treatment. The Citadel duffel bags feature C0 DWR-treated recycled polyester and waterproof zips on side pockets. The Phantom backpacks use weather-resistant Cordura and ballistic nylon that shed light rain effectively and include RFID pockets and padded laptop sleeves to protect electronics.

Yes. The Pinnacle 28L hiking backpack and the Pinnacle 42L backpack both include an integrated detachable rain cover as standard. Both covers are constructed from 210D Nylon Ripstop and rated to 10,000HH+. They stow away in a dedicated pocket on the pack when not in use and detach fully. The covers also feature reflective detailing for low-light visibility. The Orbital 30L climbing backpack is constructed from nylon Dyneema® composite fabric, which provides strong inherent weather resistance without a separate cover.

The Orbital 30L is ThruDark's dedicated climbing backpack. It is constructed from nylon Dyneema® composite fabric, one of the lightest and strongest pack materials available, to minimise weight during technical approaches. Specific climbing features include an ice axe attachment with bungee retention, a rope strap for securing a coiled climbing rope, a detachable climbing helmet cover, and a ripstop nylon construction across high-stress panels. The pack uses YKK® zips throughout and is built for use on technical approaches where weight, durability, and secure gear carry are the primary requirements.

Yes. The Pinnacle 28L, Orbital 30L, and Pinnacle 42L all include a dedicated internal hydration reservoir pocket. The pocket is sized to hold a standard hydration bladder and includes a port for routing the drinking tube to the shoulder strap for hands-free hydration. The reservoir is held in a fixed position within the main compartment and is separated from other packed items. Hydration reservoirs are not included with the pack.

Yes. The Pinnacle 42L includes a dedicated trekking pole attachment with bungee retention, which secures poles to the pack exterior when not in use. The Pinnacle 28L includes a trekking pole and light attachment point. Both packs also feature multiple external webbing attachment points that can accommodate additional gear. The Orbital 30L climbing backpack does not include a dedicated trekking pole attachment as it is designed for technical climbing approaches.

ThruDark hiking backpacks are load tested to the following limits: the Pinnacle 28L is load tested to 13kg, and the Pinnacle 42L is load tested to 14kg. These figures represent the tested structural limit of the pack and harness system under load. Carrying above these weights may exceed the design tolerances of the shoulder straps, hip belts, and back system. For expedition loads above 14kg, the Citadel duffel range (available in 45L, 80L, and 100L) provides higher-capacity options for gear transport to base camp or vehicle, with the hiking packs used for the approach.
